Deadpool is produced by 20th Century Fox, in collaboration with Marvel Entertainment, and The Donner’s entertainment company. Deadpool is the debut to the career of Tim Miller, as a director.
What is it about?
Deadpool is a superhero story based upon the original Marvel comic. The movie follows the life of Wade Wilson, an ex-special forces agent who is clinically altered. After being the subject of an advanced experiment, he is left with accelerated healing powers – making him virtually invincible. He adopts an alter ego – Deadpool. Why is it special?
Deadpool may not seem like your typical movie, but it sure is special. Having grossed over $673 million, it became the highest earning R-rated superhero movie. Beyond superheroes, it became the third R-rated movie to surpass the $300 million (domestic box office) barrier. With a budget of only $58 million, the movie grossed almost 10x more. Deadpool managed to defeat movies such as Thor: The Dark World, Big Hero 6, and Man of Steel at the box offices. All of the above, was accomplished by a 2D R-rated movie – without the assistance of China!
