You may be wondering what the differences are between the Fluance turntables and how each of the record players compare. We’ll go over all the differences to help you choose which turntable is right for you.
The Classic Series Turntable: RT80
The RT80 turntable is Fluance’s entry level Hifi Turntable. It features the Audio Technica ATN91 conical diamond tipped cartridge, felt platter mat, and hollow body construction. It is available in a gorgeous Piano Black finish for a classic understated look.
The Fluance Classic Series Turntable features a built-in phono preamp making it perfect for a compact record player setup. Simply plug directly into a set of powered bookshelf speakers (Such as the Fluance Ai40 Powered Bookshelf Speakers) for an easy plug and play setup. You do not need any additional components.
The Elite Series Turntable: RT81
The RT81 turntable has long been Fluance’s flagship Hifi Turntable. It features the Audio Technica AT95 elliptical diamond tipped cartridge, rubber platter mat, and solid wood body construction. It is available in a beautiful glossy walnut finish for a retro modern vibe.
The Fluance Elite Series Turntable also features a built-in phono preamp making it perfect for an easy or compact record player setup. Simply plug directly into a set of powered bookshelf speakers (Such as the Fluance Ai40 Powered Bookshelf Speakers) for an easy plug and play setup. You do not need any additional components.
The Reference Series Turntables: RT82, RT83, RT84, RT85
The Fluance Reference Series Turntables include numerous changes from the Classic and Elite turntables. Some of those differences are harder to spot visually. All 4 turntables feature the same main “platform” with 2 major upgrades between the RT82-RT85. The RT82, RT83 AND RT84 feature an aluminum platter, while the RT85 features an acrylic platter. The other major difference within the series is the included cartridge. The Reference Turntables use 3 different Ortofon cartridges:
Separate Phono Stage
There are numerous upgrades in the Reference Series beyond the stylus and platter. The Fluance Reference Series Turntable does not include a built-in preamp. This means you will need either a stand alone preamp, a phono preamp built-in to your powered bookshelf speakers, or you will need an A/V Receiver with a phono input.
This design choice was made with a number of factors in mind. The main reason was to separate electronics from the turntable’s signal path to maintain the purity of the analog signal. Many listeners also like to customize their listening experience and choose specific components such as preamps based on unique sonic qualities. Using separate components also allows for optimization of cartridge and phono stage compatibility. If you upgrade your cartridge in the future, you can pair with an optimal phono preamp to maximize performance and achieve the sound profile you desire.
Isolated Servo Motor
Another major upgrade from the Classic and Elite Series is the drive system. The Reference Series Turntables are still belt drive turntables however the motor is further isolated from the plinth to reduce vibrations from being picked up by the stylus. The motor features under-mounted 7-point silicone isolation with decoupling isolation ring. The motor itself is servo-controlled with a speed regulating optical sensor constantly measuring variances in the speed and adjusting as needed to maintain perfect playback.
3-Point Isolation Feet
The Reference Series features newly designed acorn shaped feet that minimize surface contact to further isolate the turntable from environmental vibrations. With only 3 points of surface contact and utilizing a soft rubber material the turntable is further immune from undesirable reverberations. Furthermore, the feet are adjustable to allow users to perfectly level their turntable even if the surface is not completely level.
RT85 Reference High Fidelity Vinyl Turntable
Featuring a High Density Acrylic Platter and Ortofon 2M Blue Stylus, the RT85 Reference turntable delivers a warm, uncompressed listening experience that commands your attention, allowing you to get lost in the music.
