Could you imagine a world without music? What would life be like?
Today, all music is in the air. Celebrated every June 21 in over 120 countries, World Music Day appreciates music in all its forms and recognizes its important impact on the lives and mental health of individuals across the globe. Alternatively known as Fête de la Musique, the first World Music Day was initiated in Paris, France by the then French Minister of Culture, Jack Lange, as a day for music lovers to celebrate, showcase their talent and make music accessible to all. After the first celebration in 1982, World Music Day has grown to become recognized internationally as a day full of fun and festivities that highly encourage both amateur and professional musicians to perform in open public spaces to showcase and share their creativity with all.
Free Fun for Everyone
Even if we can’t play an instrument or sing, music has a universal appeal that speaks to individuals’ minds and emotions in unique ways. It is no doubt a part of your life in some form, and if it isn’t, today is your opportunity to explore and try something new. There are many ways to get involved both individually, or with your friends and family to celebrate and appreciate the art of music. Throw on a playlist of a music genre you never listen to or pick up a new instrument you’ve always wanted to learn. Get your friends and family involved by creating a shared playlist to swap your favorite songs or watch a virtual concert together.
No matter how you decide to participate in World Music Day, spread awareness of the power music has on our everyday lives and honor the importance of its benefits to the mind, body and soul.
